WHAT LED YOU TO HILLSDALE:
|
Our District Superintendent, Dr. Mike Leatherwood, at the time of my appointment to Hillsdale told me that the church needed a minister with specific gifts and graces to help this young congregation build and grow its ministry. My background in construction prior to my call to ministry has helped me bring those gifts and graces to this community.

Jerry is the second pastor at Hillsdale United Methodist Church which was chartered as a new church mission in March, 1999. He grew up in this area, graduating from West Davidson High School in 1976 and then received a double major in Business Administration and Economics from Pfeiffer College in 1980. After college, Jerry entered the construction and manufacturing business with Alumax Building Products and worked mainly in the southeast United States for the first 16 years of his career. WHAT LED YOU TO HILLSDALE:
|
Hillsdale was one of the churches that partnered with me as I served as a missionary in Palestine in 2007. Then during the autumn of 2009, after completing my Master’s Degree at the University of Bristol in England, I discovered Hillsdale had a need for an Assistant Pastor. I expressed my interest in the position, and was subsequently hired.

INTERESTS:

Reaching out to those in need by showing the love of Jesus, cycling, hiking, international travel and community.

| FAVORITE SCRIPTURES: |
Luke 15:11 - 31, the story of the son who left home thinking he could do better on his own, but then when things got bad, he returned home where he was welcomed and loved by his father. Jesus uses this story to illustrate that God welcomes us back even when we sin.
Matthew 25. 31- 46, here Jesus teaches that what we do or don't do, to those in need, we do to Him! And that has eternal consequences! Scary!

PERSONAL STATEMENT:
|
I began vocational ministry in 2003, serving two churches as a licensed, local pastor in our conference of the United Methodist Church. I then served in a Muslim area of Palestine for several months as a missionary, working with the humanitarian aid agency of Bethlehem Bible College. After this I enrolled in the University of Bristol (England) and completed my Masters Degree. While here I worked with a homeless shelter and a church in a high poverty, inner-city community.

Allison grew up all over the southeast, attending thirteen different schools before graduating from high school in 1977. She majored in Russian and Soviet History at the University of Georgia and pursued her MBA degree through 1984. After college, Allison was employed by a management-consulting firm. Prior to moving to North Carolina, she served as Vice President of Marketing for a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises, Inc. A glutton for punishment, Allison is currently enrolled in Pfeiffer University’s graduate school to obtain a master’s degree in Christian Education while pursuing candidacy to become an ordained minister in the United Methodist denomination. Being part of Hillsdale the past five years, during this season of incredible growth and maturing of a new congregation, has been one of the most rewarding seasons of her life.

WHAT EVENTS LED YOU TO HILLSDALE:

I attended the women’s Thursday morning Bible study. I was amazed at the diverse number of women who were welcomed to explore and grow in their faith and the spirit in which this church encouraged us along the way. After traveling to Nashville with this group (a year later), I left the traditional Methodist church I attended for 35 years for an opportunity to develop my knowledge and love of God. I began serving this church by teaching children at vacation Bible school, teaching children’s church, assisting in the nursery, and chaperoning trips in the summer. My family joined in 2008. A passion for the Lord and love for all God’s children has brought me to this position.
